Shingles are designed to protect your structure from the outside elements. They are the outside layer of protection for your home. But that layer is only as effective as their quality permits.
If your shingles aren’t up to the mark, water, wind, and heat can penetrate your home’s roof and lead to discoloration in your ceiling, water damage in your structure, mold and mildew that are difficult to remove, and even leaks in your attic that can result in huge insulation bills every month.
Evidently, this isn’t much of a problem for flat roof homes. But homes with shingles need to pay heed to this.
